Based on each company's official product pages as of September 2026. A dash, cross mark, or "Not advertised" means we did not find that feature advertised on the maker's site as of September 2026. Weights are shown in grams; figures a maker lists in ounces are converted and rounded. PawPulse offers wellness insights, not a diagnosis.
Full PawPulse vs Fi breakdownHealth stack
PawPulse is the only name on this table advertising contactless HRV, breath VOC, air-quality context, Pulse Rhythm calming, and vet-facing sharing in one platform as of September 2026. Tractive offers resting heart-rate and respiratory-rate trends; the rest list activity and behavior.
Weight reality
Lucero's module is 28 g on its own (strap extra). SATELLAI (184 g collar) and Tractive (40 g DOG 6 tracker) publish a weight; we found no official weight for Fi Series 3+, Halo Collar 5, or SpotOn Nova as of September 2026.

Competitor figures come from each company's official product pages as of September 2026. Owner reports are attributed and dated. Every head-to-head page lists its sources.

PawPulse Lucero - the full stack.
Fi and Tractive track location and activity. Halo and SpotOn fence with optional static. SATELLAI focuses on location. PawPulse Lucero brings continuous health monitoring, satellite-ready GPS, VOC breath context, Pulse Rhythm, and vet-ready sharing into one smart dog collar. One smart dog collar, one subscription, nothing else to buy.
Reserve for $5Weight on the neck
Lighter is kinder.
Especially for smaller dogs.
Your dog wears it every hour of every day, so every gram counts. SpotOn doesn't publish the Nova's weight. A Petful reviewer puts it at about half a pound (about 227 g), roughly eight times the Lucero module.
10 lb dog
SpotOn lists 15 lb as its minimum dog size, so no SpotOn bar is shown.
15 lb dog
30 lb dog
At 28 grams, the PawPulse module is about 0.6 percent of a 10 lb dog's body weight and about 0.2 percent of a 30 lb dog's. The strap adds weight on top. SpotOn does not publish the Nova's weight; the 227 g (about half a pound) figure is a Petful reviewer's estimate, not a SpotOn spec. The 3-5% band is a rule of thumb from wildlife-tracking research, not a veterinary standard. Scale runs 0 to 6 percent.
"About 0.5 lb."
"Carried himself differently while wearing it."
Worn every hour
A collar isn't a jacket you take off. Lucero is built to stay on day and night, so resting heart rate and breathing are captured while your dog sleeps. Every gram rides along the whole time.
Small airways, gentle gear
Veterinary guidance from VCA Animal Hospitals suggests a harness rather than a collar for dogs with tracheal collapse, a condition the American College of Veterinary Surgeons notes is most common in small breeds.
Pressure on the neck
Small studies have found that pulling against a collar can temporarily raise eye pressure in dogs, while a harness did not.
Manufacturers set their own minimum dog sizes: SpotOn lists 15 lb, Halo lists 10 lb, and Tractive DOG 6 lists 9 lb, per their product pages.
Ask your veterinarian if your dog has airway, eye, or neck conditions.

A day with, a day without
The table is the spec sheet. This is the difference.
Four ordinary days. On the left, what a location-first collar can report. On the right, what the same day looks like when the collar is also reading heart rate, respiration, movement, and the air around your dog.
PawPulse surfaces patterns and context for you and your vet. It is a consumer wellness product, not a medical device, and nothing here replaces a veterinary exam.

How we built the comparison.
How we built the table, what the terms mean, and what is still to come.
From each company's current official product pages as of September 2026, plus named, dated outlets where noted. Where we found no official figure, the table says so rather than estimating, and a dash means we did not find that feature advertised on the maker's site as of September 2026. Every head-to-head page lists its sources. If you spot a figure that has changed, tell us and we will correct it.
PawPulse Lucero fence training uses vibration cues near the boundary and never static shock. As of September 2026, SpotOn and Halo both list static correction as an optional setting, SATELLAI describes audio and vibration cues, and Fi and Tractive send boundary alerts to your phone without cueing the dog.
Of the collars in this comparison, Tractive offers resting heart-rate and respiratory-rate trends and states it is not a medical device. Fi, Halo, SpotOn, and SATELLAI do not advertise heart-rate sensing as of September 2026. PawPulse Lucero adds heart-rate variability to contactless heart rate and breathing monitoring that works on every coat.
Fi Ultra, a separate Fi product, uses T-Mobile T-Satellite with Starlink in the US only; Engadget reports roughly two days of battery. SATELLAI's current collar page describes LTE and does not claim direct satellite messaging for the collar. PawPulse Lucero pairs GPS and LTE with satellite-ready backup, with availability depending on carrier and certification.
Lucero retails at $449. A $5 Pioneer Reservation locks in $336 (25% off), and a $20 Founders Circle seat (only 50 seats) locks in $291 (35% off). Kickstarter reward tiers run $359 to $404 per collar. Health Plan pricing is still unannounced and will be announced before launch, with Waglist members hearing first. The comparison still shows what each collar includes so you can weigh the full picture, not just the sticker.
Lucero includes fence training: you draw a zone in the app, and the collar uses vibration boundary cues near the edge plus an alert to your phone. It never uses static or shock. Halo and SpotOn both offer optional static correction; Lucero does not have that mode at all.
Tractive, the one tracker here that lists heart rate, offers resting heart-rate and respiratory-rate trends. Lucero uses Kinetic sensing for contactless heart rate, heart-rate variability, and breathing monitoring that works on every coat, then Prism Insights compares each signal with your dog's own baseline and breed-aware norms so you see patterns, not one-off numbers.
A collar is worn all day, every day. Lucero's sensing module is 28 g on its own; the strap adds weight on top. Among the competitors, SATELLAI publishes 184 g for its collar and Tractive publishes 40 g for the DOG 6 tracker; we found no official weight for Fi Series 3+, Halo Collar 5, or SpotOn Nova as of September 2026.
Lighter is better, because a collar is worn every hour of every day. It matters most for small and toy breeds: VCA Animal Hospitals suggests a harness instead of a collar for dogs with tracheal collapse, which is most common in those breeds. That is why we publish Lucero's weight: the sensing module is 28 g, with the strap extra. Several competitors don't publish theirs, and a Petful reviewer puts the SpotOn Nova at about half a pound (about 227 g). If your dog has airway, eye, or neck conditions, ask your veterinarian which collar fits.
Lucero retails at $449 and pairs with a PawPulse Health Plan for cloud features like health history, alerts, location, and vet sharing. Health Plan pricing is still unannounced and will be announced before launch, with Waglist members hearing first. The comparison notes which competitors require a plan so you can compare like for like.
Yes. Setup is dock, pair in the PawPulse app, and fit the collar. Prism Insights starts from breed-aware baselines, so the collar is useful before it has weeks of your dog's history. Location, health trends, and Pulse Rhythm all live in the same app from day one.
Yes. Lucero and Ember use Kinetic sensing, contactless heart rate and breathing monitoring that works on every coat, so coat length, color, and double coats do not get in the way the way they can for optical (light-based) wearables.
